Am I missing something? My Sonic has the same shift pattern, and is clearly not a VW.

Back in 2006/7, VW had this and I *think* they were the first to do it... so I don't know. It's also been a *somewhat* common saying in the VW community since the first R32 came around.

I don't know which was the first BMW to have a 6 speed manual, but all of the BMW with 6 speeds have that pattern. Like the 850i introduced in 1990:

The 1986 Porsche 959 was the first 6 speed manual and used this pattern. The 911 has been using it since then until it went 7 speed.

I've had that "Shift Like No Other" shirt for a while now. It's comfy, I'll give it that. Also, I got it for free when we bought the Passat.

That's not even a good shift power, putting reverse right beside 1st is stupid.

-_- NO

Reverse is push down and over... so you can't put it in reverse on accident. It's actually a nice shift pattern if you need to do a three point turn or if you are in a parking lot

Meanwhile... bigbossyboss is giving me shit about how it is a terrible shift pattern to have reverse up and next to first. lol

Haha, I'd be a bit nervous about that.

Just remember, This exists.

Kinja'd!!!0

?? My shift pattern is this

1 3 5

2 4 R

It's brilliant. You can't hit R on accident. How could you, because when you throw it into 5 you're going up not down. 5-3 shifts can be tricky sometimes though, I've missed and put it back into 5 haha.

How can you throw mine in reverse without either going extremely slow (downshift into first?) or being at a stop.

Cosworth, and their crazy shit that doesn't make sense.

I'd totally shift into reverse instead of first, and from first, shift back into reverse or maybe first.

Kinja'd!!! thebigbossyboss > Sportwägen, Driver Of The Red Sportwagen
01/21/2015 at 08:04

Obviously you would only do it when going extremely slowly, like when parallel parking, which is usually what I use reverse for.
